The Involvement of Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and IGOs in International Conflict Resolution

The course will highlight the complexity of conflict and crisis management within international organizations and institutions. This will include inter alia, mediation, prevention, arbitration, coercion, collaboration and peace building. We will focus on the role of the UN and NGOs, in stabilizing or resolving conflict situations, concentrating on the Middle East conflict while referring to other cases worldwide. Theoretical and practical strategies of international organizations' involvement, especially the UN System, Specialized Agencies, Peacekeeping Forces and NGOs, will be discussed.
